Alejandro Villanueva Agrees to Contract Extension

Alejandro Villanueva is returning to the Steelers on a four-year deal

Alejandro Villanueva has agreed to sign a new four-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

This is an absolutely huge break for the team. Le’Veon Bell does not have a new contract yet, and one holdout would already be difficult enough for the team to deal with. If the Steelers had to go into camp without their star running back and starting left tackle, building any sort of offensive continuity in camp would have been nearly impossible.

Villanueva has evolved into a fine left tackle since replacing Kelvin Beachum in 2015. He went undrafted in 2010, but served in the military in his four years between college and arriving in the NFL. He is one of the league’s best stories, but has also become a very solid player.

The Steelers now have their entire offensive line in training camp, one of the best in all of football. No more contract drama or potential holdouts. The unit can officially start gelling for the 2017 season.
