Ben Roethlisberger is unsure about his playing status for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ playoff game against the Denver Broncos after tearing shoulder ligaments in his throwing arm.
The Steelers quarterback was reported to have suffered an AC sprain, which he recovered from sufficiently to play in Saturday’s Wildcard win at the Cincinnati Bengals.
However, Roethlisberger has now revealed that the issue is much more serious.
“It’s definitely sore,” Roethlisberger told The Cook and Poni Show in Pittsburgh of his shoulder.
“I think it’s a little bit better than it was, but we’re still going to just take it day-by-day.”
He also discussed playing with the injury when he came back in last week’s game against the Bengals. Eventually, he led the Steelers to a late game-winning drive.
“It didn’t hurt when I reached back to throw,” Roethlisberger explained.
“But it was pushing forward to throw and then the end of the throw. So I definitely felt like I was shortening up my motion up a little bit, which is why we threw some screens, and couldn’t really get the ball down the field.
“I think it just more affected how I could throw it.”
Despite reports saying Roethlisberger will be good to go Sunday, he doesn’t seem so sure.
He revealed he hasn’t thrown a ball since the game and is scheduled to see doctors and trainers on Wednesday to evaluate his progress. Coach Mike Tomlin later confirmed that Roethlisberger would likely go limited during practice, with the intention of building up his participation ahead of Sunday.
