NFL betting pundits note how everything seems to be falling into place for the Pittsburgh Steelers to make another run at the Super Bowl in 2012. At least from a coaching staff perspective.
Just like his defensive counterpart Dick LeBeau, Online sports betting pundits note how Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians is coming back for another season.
Arians has been the head of Pittsburgh's offense for the last four seasons but, like LeBeau, was contemplating retirement with his contract expiring. Maybe losing the Super Bowl and being so close has inspired the two to take one more shot with the Steelers. Arians is expected to sign a one-year deal to return to the Steelers' sideline.
The coaching staff has remained intact this offseason except for the departure of secondary coach Ray Horton. Horton joined the Arizona Cardinals staff earlier this month as their defensive coordinator.
There is certainly room for improvement. Last season he Steelers were 14th in total offense last season and 12th in scoring.
He will still have plenty of options with the return Ben Roethlisberger for a full season and Rashard Mendenhall, who only seemed to get stronger as the playoffs went on.
Even though Mike Tomlin will have the comfort of knowing his Offensive Coordinator is back, there are many who follow the Steelers who would of loved to see a change.
Arians has taken a lot of heat for his play-calling and his focus on passing rather than the running game. If things don't improve this season, it might be time for someone new to take over the controls for Pittsburgh.
As for the reasoning behind bringing Arians back for one season, the Steelers could be bracing for the CBA and a shortened season. Conceivably new Offensive and Defensive Cordinators might only have a few weeks to install their schemes, and that will lead to disaster.
The Steelers are coming off a season where they went 12-4 and tied for the AFC North title with Baltimore . They went on to beat the Ravens and New York Jets in the postseason before losing to the Green Bay Packers in the Super Bowl.
Pittsburgh will once again be a favourite in the AFC when the new season kicks off in September.
