The NL Central has been one of the most competitive divisions in baseball this season, while the NL West has been the opposite. The Central has four of the five teams within 3.5 games of each other with the Milwaukee Brewers in the lead and the Pittsburgh Pirates 3.5 game back. The West has three of the five teams trailing the division leader by double-digit games, with the San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks all at least 12 games back. With Pittsburgh trying to jump a few teams in the Central, the Pittsburgh Pirates schedule gives the team a bit of a breather with the Rockies coming to PNC Park for the first series to start the second half. Pirates tickets on the secondary market are averaging $39.88 for the series, down 43 percent from the season average.
7/18 COL Jorge De La Rosa vs. PIT Francisco Liriano | Avg. Price: $33 | Get-in Price: $7
Last season Francisco Liriano revitalized his career, and was a big reason the Pirates made the postseason. The same hasn’t been true this season, with Liriano barely rating above replacement level while putting together a 4.72 ERA in 15 starts. But fans will receive a free t-shirt for coming to the game as part of the Friday promotion. The average price of the game is $33 and the get-in price is $7.
7/19 COL Brett Anderson vs. PIT Charlie Morton | Avg. Price: $62.65 | Get-in Price: $13
There is a big jump in price for Saturday’s game, and fans will be treated to a postgame fireworks show. The average price is almost double Friday’s at $62.65 and the get-in price is up to $13. But the pitching will be much better for Pittsburgh with Charlie Morton taking the mound. Morton easily leads the team with 119.1 innings pitched, and is tied for the team lead in WAR. He also has a solid 3.32 ERA and good fielding independent numbers as well.
7/20 COL Tyler Matzek vs. PIT Jeff Locke | Avg. Price: $24 | Get-in Price: $5
The final game of the series is easily the cheapest. The average price of the game is just $24 and the get-in price is $5. It’s also Kids Day at the park, and all kids in attendance will receive a free Gregory Polanco poster. Jeff Locke takes the mound for the Pirates in the finale, and the 26-year-old has been incredible. Last season he gave the team a boost with 30 starts and a 3.52 ERA, but so far this year his numbers have been even better. Despite making less than half the starts Morton has this season, he is tied for the team lead in WAR. He also has a 2.89 ERA and an impressive 0.98 WHIP.
