Phillies Pirates rivalry

The Pittsburgh Pirates host the Philadelphia Phillies for three games at PNC Park this weekend. The Pirates schedule has the two teams meeting this weekend for the first of two series during the regular season. The secondary market season average for Pirates tickets is $68.76, but each of the series’ three games will see below-average ticket prices. The series as a whole will be 24.6% below the season average.

7/4 – Roberto Hernandez vs Gerrit Cole | Avg. Price: $61.54 | Get-in Price: $24

The series begins Friday night when Gerrit Cole takes the mound for the Pirates against the Phillies’ Roberto Hernandez. Average price for Friday Pirates vs Phillies tickets is $61.54 with a get-in price of $24. Friday night will be the series highest average priced game but still 10.5% below season average. Cole is 6-4 with a 4.02 ERA while Hernandez has struggled, going just 3-7 with a 4.26 ERA.

7/5 – David Buchannon vs Edinson Volquez | Avg. Price: $49 | Get-in Price: $16

The second game of the series will feature Edinson Volquez for the Pirates and David Buchanan for the Phillies. Average price for Saturday Pirates vs Phillies tickets is $49, 28.7% below season average, with a get-in price of $16. Volquez enters Saturday’s game at 6-6 with a 4.07 ERA while Buchanan sits at 4-4 with a 4.86 ERA.

7/6 – A.J. Burnett vs TBA | Avg. Price: $45 | Get-in Price: $9

The rubber match of the series will be played Sunday afternoon and will see Phillies pitcher A.J. Burnett match up against the Pirates starter to be named later. Average price for Sunday Pirates vs Phillies tickets is $45, the lowest of the series at 34.5% below season average, with a get-in price of $9. Burnett has struggled without efficient run support, posting just a 5-7 record and 3.92 ERA.

The Phillies have had a dismal season as they enter Friday’s game in last place in the N.L. East. Despite their first playoff appearance since 1992 last season, the Pirates have also struggled and have barely managed to stay above .500 over the season’s first half. They will look to regain composure when the bumbling Phillies head to PNC Park this weekend.
