Lewis & Mundy Sign
- Updated: April 17, 2012
Secondary Signings by the Pittsburgh Steelers
Two more Pittsburgh Steelers restricted free agents have signed their tenders now according to Howard Balzer on Twitter. Safety Ryan Mundy and cornerback Keenan Lewis both had low original round tenders of $1.26 million placed on them prior to the start of free agency. Their signings leave wide receiver Mike Wallace as the only restricted free agent yet to sign his tender as Ramon Foster, David Johnson and Doug Legursky all signed their low tender offers over the course of the last several days.
Wallace was the lone player tendered at a level other than 1.26 million as his first round tender equated to $2.742 million. A report surfaced last week that Wallace would not sign his tender and report to offseason workouts that began in Pittsburgh on Monday. Wallace is still reportedly seeking a long-term deal, but he will not have much leverage once the restricted offer sheet deadline of April 20th passes. Wallace can have his tender reduced to to 110 percent of last year’s salary should he not sign it by June 15th. That cut would equate to a $577,500 tender offer with the Steelers retaining his rights in the process, but they must notify Wallace in writing before doing so. There has been no word out of Wallace or his agent Bus Cook since the report surfaced that he would not sign his tender.
The only restricted free agent the Steelers chose not to tender was tackle Jamon Meredith. He then became a free agent at the start of the new league year and has since signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
