Mike Wallace is Taking his Talents to South Beach

PITTSBURGH —Mike Wallace is taking his talents to South Beach.

The speedy wide receiver has agreed to a deal with the Miami Dolphins, according to various reports. ESPN’s John Clayton reported the deal is for five years and $65 million.

Wallace, 26, leaves the Steelers after four seasons, including a rocky 2012 that saw him hold out during training camp in hopes of getting a new contract.

When Wallace did join his teammates for the regular season, he struggled in Todd Haley’s new offense, which emphasizes shorter, quicker routes. He even admitted to losing focus at times during games.

The deep ball Wallace became famous for by using his speed to burn defenders was rarely seen. He produced his lowest receiving totals (836 yards) since his rookie campaign (756 yards). His yards per catch also dropped from an average 16.6 in 2011 to 13.1 last season.

In four seasons with the Steelers, Wallace had 235 receptions for 4,042 yards and 32 touchdowns. He was the team’s Rookie of the Year in 2009 and went to the Pro Bowl in 2011.
