Roller Coaster Season So Far for the Steelers

The 2013 NFL season for the Pittsburgh Steelers has been a roller coaster ride to say the least, for the team and the fans. They are coming off a heartbreaking 22-20 loss to their hated rivals, the Baltimore Ravens, and their record is currently 5-7 as they sit on the playoff elimination bubble. All hope is not lost, but the light at the end of the tunnel is getting dimmer and dimmer as we speak.

Just a week ago the Steelers put on that ugly bumblebee throw back uniform and had an impressive win against the Browns to put themselves in the driver seat for the last AFC wildcard spot. The win had fans once again running out to buy Glidden, Pittsburgh Steelers Team Colors, Gold Eggshell Interior Paint and Primer to get those fan caves primed and ready for a playoff run.

How quickly things change after a loss though. From glee to talk of the draft and off season changes to glee again. Steeler’s fans have been up and down all year. This week they hate the coach and want to purge the team of every veteran. Last week they wanted to give out coach of the year awards and put the old timers in the Hall of Fame. That’s the life of a diehard Steelers fan. We have such a love/hate relationship with the team and the players that it can be downright unhealthy at times.

It’s never a dull moment in the burgh though as the team deals with the controversy of Coach Mike Tomlin’s actions during the Ravens game, on a Jacoby Jones kick return, in which he was fined an astounding $100k. The fans deal with mixed emotions about the return of the “One Trick Pony” Mike Wallace and the Miami Dolphins who are up next.

Other topics of interest going around the blogosphere are what the team should do this offseason. Should long time stalwarts like “The Beard” Brett Keisel, Ryan Clark, Larry Foote and Ike Taylor be brought back for another run next season or should they become cap casualties to help free up cash to get the team younger and allow for a few free agent signings?

Should Mike Tomlin continue to be the king of the castle? Is Dick Lebeau ready for the retirement circuit? Will the Steelers’ fans ever embrace an offensive coordinator or is Todd Haley doomed to be hated forever? Are Big Ben and the gurus in the front office secretly working on drafting up divorce papers?

The season isn’t over yet and the team still has slim hopes of making the playoffs, but it is never too soon to talk offseason moves. Especially if you’re a fan of the Steelers, you know; us idiots who take this stuff way too serious and talk shop year round.

As Steelers fans we will never be satisfied or content. So feel free to post in the comments below, your thoughts or ask for ours on subjects that would interest you in future readings.
