Steelers Sign LaRod Stephens-Howling to One-year Deal

The Steelers have signed running back/kick returner LaRod Stephens-Howling to a one-year deal, according to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora.

steelersStephens-Howling, 26, spent his first four seasons in Arizona, where he returned three kickoffs for touchdowns and made 56 catches as a third-down back. He’ll add speed to a backfield led by Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman.

Rashard Mendenhall, meanwhile, is the favorite to start at tailback in Arizona after leaving Pittsburgh.

Stephens-Howling had a couple of big games last season. Against Minnesota, he ran for 104 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 45 yards. Against Atlanta, he carried 22 times for 127 rushing yards and a score. But over his career, he’s averaged 3.6 yards per carry.
