Rookies Watt and Dobbs Look Good in Steelers Preseason Opener

Rookie TJ Watt Impresses

Steelers football is officially back as we have week one of preseason games in the books. In a very close week one preseason matchup, the Steelers were able to hold off the New York Giants with a 20-12 victory. One of many players that Steelers fans were anxious to see perform was first round pick, TJ Watt. Luckily for all the Pittsburgh faithful, Watt did more than impress! In just his first four official plays as a Steeler, Watt recorded not one, but two sacks. He finished the game with three total tackles. His play had people from all around the country very impressed. Most notably, his brother JJ, who tweeted out his praise for TJ’s performance. It has also come out that hip hop icon, Kendrick Lamar, called JJ to talk about his brother’s performance.

Another pair of players on the Steelers defense who impressed were linebackers, LJ Fort and Arthur Moats. Fort led the Steelers with five tackles. Moats finished with four tackles and had an interception as well.

Dobbs Looks Good

Another rookie that Steelers fans have been waiting to see perform is quarterback Josh Dobbs. With both Ben Roethlisberger and Landry Jones out, Dobbs was given the opportunity to start in this week one preseason matchup. Unfortunately, Dobbs still looks to need time to adjust to the professional game, as he threw two interceptions. However, he did connect on a beautiful 28-yard touchdown pass to Cobi Hamilton. Dobbs finished 8/15 with 100 yards, two interceptions, and one touchdown. He also had one rush for 16 yards.

As for other key players on offense in this week one matchup, Hamilton was the leading receiver. He finished with two receptions for 77 yards and a touchdown. Terrell Watson led the Steelers in rushing with 44 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries. Newly acquired Knile Davis had eight carries for 34 yards.

What’s Next?

The Steelers will be back in action for week two of the preseason against the reigning NFC Champion Atlanta Falcons. The game will be played at Heinz Field at 4:00 pm ET on August 20th
