Steelers Sign Center Lucas Crowley

The Steelers made changes to their offensive line on Tuesday

Lucas Crowley is now a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The team announced on Tuesday that they had signed the rookie center while waiving/injured Mike Matthews.

A standout lineman during his time at North Carolina, Crowley earned third team All-ACC honors in 2015 and second team honors as a senior in 2016. He saw time with the Cardinals before being waived late last month.

While his strengths include his intelligence, his abilities as a pull blocker and his ability in space, Crowley’s weakness include his size ( said he needed to add 15 pounds to his 6’3 frame — he was 269 pounds — before the draft), stamina while blocking and his tendency to give up too much ground against bull rushers.

Signed during the offseason, Matthews is the son of Hall of Fame lineman, Bruce Matthews. He started his career with the Browns after going undrafted in this year’s draft.
