Antwon Blake Signs RFA Tender with Steelers

Antwon Blake Returns to the Fold by Signing His Restricted Free Agent Tender

Cornerback Antwon Blake didn’t generate any offer sheets from other teams as a restricted free agent over the last month, which means he’ll be back with the Steelers in 2015.

Blake tweeted a picture of the moment he signed his tender from the Steelers, setting him up to make $1.542 million next season in Pittsburgh. The Steelers had the right to match any offers that might have come Blake’s way, but wouldn’t have received any draft pick compensation if that happened.

Since it didn’t, Blake will be back in the mix for playing time at corner. He played 275 snaps on defense last season and had 42 tackles and an interception.

Those numbers could be going up with Ike Taylor headed for retirement and Brice McCain signing with the Dolphins as a free agent. That leaves William Gay and Cortez Allen at the top of the depth chart with more help possibly arriving via the draft.
