Pittsburgh Steelers Outsiders With Oddsmakers Ahead Of New Season

The Pittsburgh Steelers go into the new NFL season as the biggest price they have been to win the Super Bowl for many years, as the odds-makers rate them as +3300 to loft the Vince Lombardi Trophy in Florida in February.

With the absence of Antonio Brown, who made the switch to the Oakland Raiders back in March and Le’Veon Bell, who is now a New York Jets player, it is a Pittsburgh team in the process of rebuilding. The Steelers are used to going into the new season as one of the leading contenders, which brings pressure in itself.

This time, the new campaign is an opportunity for the likes of JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Conner to kick on and really establish themselves as two of the biggest stars of the league. If that proves to be the case, the Steelers could be overpriced to win their first Super Bowl since 2008.

Pittsburgh fans will be hoping the bookmakers have underestimated their chances in 2019. Any team with Ben Roethlisberger as their quarterback has to be respected, while the defensive unit is improving all the time.

At the top of the outright market for the new season, it is no surprise to see the New England Patriots as the favorites with American football odds of +700. Tom Brady and Bill Belichick secured their sixth Super Bowl ring earlier this year with victory over the LA Rams. The Rams are not far behind the Patriots at +750 to go one better next season, Kansas City Chiefs are +800 as they are a team who is only going to get better with Patrick Mahomes as QB, while the New Orleans Saints are also available at +800.

Browns Shorter Than Steelers In AFC North Betting

Pittsburgh has won the AFC North title three times in the last five years. However, it is the Cleveland Browns who are fancied by the bookmakers to finish the regular season at the top of the standings, as they are the +225 favorites.

The Browns showed signs that they were going in the right direction last season as they had their best campaign for a while, falling just short of the playoffs with a 7-8-1 record. In Baker Mayfield, they now finally have their franchise QB who they can build around for the next few years.

Cleveland surprised the whole NFL world earlier this year when they traded for Odell Beckham Jr from the New York Giants. The three-time Pro-Bowler, who is considered by many as one of the best wide receivers in the game, will strengthen the Browns straight away so it is easy to see why they are now topping the betting in the division.

In the backfield, Nick Chubb made a fantastic start to his career in the NFL with 1149 all-purpose yards that included 10 touchdowns. Chubb will be supported by Kareem Hunt later in the season once his ban is served.

Pittsburgh will see Cleveland as their biggest threat this season in the AFC North so the two meetings between the sides will have added significance on them in 2019 and could determine who makes it into the post season at the end of the year.
